24 Master Black Belts Define “True North"

theDifference collaborated with consultants from North Highland Company to facilitate the development of the vision, strategies, and action plans for the Global Operational Excellence leadership team of a Fortune 500, multinational, agricultural biotechnology company.

Twenty-four Six-Sigma Master Black Belts assembled for 2 days at the company’s headquarters in St. Louis, MO, to engage in collaborative discussions and to enable visibility and alignment around a common approach to operational excellence. Using a planning technique called Hoshin Kanri, the team defined their “Level 0 – True North Vision” and then created and aligned their “Level 1 – Mother Strategies” and “Level 2- Action Plans” to that vision.

To enable the discovery of the power of iterative design, Executive Director Tom Kehner andCreative Director Matt Sullivan from The Difference utilized Tom Wujec’s Marshmallow Challenge as an interactive exercise to drive home the key principles of iteration and sustainable frameworks. Key insights debriefed by the team after experiencing the exercise included the need for iterative design planning, iterative plan execution, flexibility, prototyping, testing, and sharing best practices.
