Largest Supplier of Lifesaving Blood Calls on The Difference
In April, theDifference teamed with our strategic consulting partner, North Highland, to guide a team of 44 project managers and staffers from the largest single supplier of blood and blood products in the United States through a 3-day collaborative workshop.
The engagement was designed to validate the detailed implementation tasks required for cutover to a new computer system that will enable a more modern blood banking software application and the delivery of ISBT 128 labeled blood and blood products.
Collecting and processing more than 40
percent of the nation’s blood supply and distributing it to some 3,000 hospitals and transfusion centers nationwide, the work performed by the client team in the workshop was deemed critical to their ability to protect the safety of donors and patients while increasing the availability of blood.
Designed and facilitated by Tom Kehner, Executive Director from The Difference, the 3-day workshop was built around a series of collaborative conversations that enabled the team to openly critique a detailed schedule encompassing over 1000 tasks. Looking at the tasks from both an enterprise level and a horizontal process level enabled teams to assess gaps, identify hand-offs, and name dependencies as predecessors and successors.
At the close of the session, the client’s Vice President and sponsor of the workshop said of The Difference, “We had a great outcome in the amount of work we accomplished, the next steps identified, and in coming together as a team. I appreciated your team’s ability to quickly flex and adapt to changes each day and to provide the skills that we did not have in house. It was a pleasure working with you and your team.”
